It was simply breathtaking! Since we are here in June with record high temps, we were concerned the tour might be canceled even (if temps expected to reach 115, the company would cancel). I really didn't know what to expect, as my hubby really wanted to go to this park. Marty was great about asking for comfort checks and allowed us to choose if/when/where we stopped! We were on, as he would say, vacation time and could choose our own adventure! We made it Death Valley in really good time, fairly early and there was maybe 2 other people at our first stop, Dante's View. We hit the jackpot (pun intended) with Marty as our driver! He showed up on time and talked us through the amenities, cooler filled with ice and water bottles (we could add our own drinks too) and a back up case of water to ensure we were well hydrated! The vehicle was really beautiful, 2019 white Lincoln Navigator! He went through the buttons, let us select our seats and we were off! The ride was super comfortable and enjoyable! Marty was able to balance sharing interesting facts and funny anecdotes so that even our teens were engaged (most of the time lol)! We made a quick first stop at a local grocery store on the road and got a few drinks. The level of care and customer service was impeccable even before we even began the tour! After the initial reservation, we received reminder emails and phone calls giving detailed information about our pick up location at The Cosmopolitan hotel. I also shared that we are Star Wars fans and would love some stops to highlight where various scenes from Star Wars new hope was filmed. Victoria was able to get approval to open up a Monday tour date of Death Valley. As a family of 4, with two older teens (13 & 16) and a 6'3" tall hubby and none of us being that small, we wanted to make sure we'd be comfortable during the ~12 hr trip. She answered all my questions and concerns and helped to plan our private, unique experience. I can Without a doubt recommend DETOURS as the way to go! From the initial phone call with Victoria, I felt completely at ease. We found DETOURS when trying to book a private Grand Canyon tour. Red mud will cling to your boots, and possibly smear part of your pants and jacket if it is a long one. We were there on rainy days, the ground was muddy and the mud is like clay and stuck to shoes. That means no fashion boots with flat bottom (wear those with chunky traction), definitely NO HEELS (they said some came wearing high heels).

If you are taking heli ride, arrive early for weighing and safety instructions.

The restaurants are operated by the tribe. Talk to them about lunch/meal options while you are at the park. The company provides water and may be light snack (we chose to bring our own). The pontoon was an easy 15-20 min ride along the Colorado river. The heli was a quick 15 minutes ride to the river bank on the base of the canyon. If you have a large group (mine was 15 people) then I highly recommend a private tour. If you are traveling private, driving your own car or rental then you will park your vehicle at the visitor center then catch the Park shuttle.

We booked a private tour with a company who has made arrangement/get a permit to drive into the park with our own bus. The park is operated by the Hualapai Indian tribe. They picked us up on time at the hotel and the driving was safe and pleasant.
#DETOURS OF NEVADA DRIVER#
On the day of the tour, we got a nice comfortable bus, excellent and attentive guide (Marty) and driver (Derek). We booked a heli & pontoon ride of the Grand Canyon and the Skywalk tour. Ted and Rachel took care of my rsvp and very responsive.
